If you want to wake up to the sounds of farm animals or a tumbling burn, Williamwood Farm is the place to be when you want to enjoy the ultimate in family holidays in Scotland.

Williamwood Farm is a little piece of heaven, set in the magnificent countryside of Dumfries and Galloway. The award-winning farm is situated ideally to allow visitors to explore some of the beautiful countryside in the UK and it is close to some of the greatest cities.

Family Holidays in Scotland: A Short Drive – A World of Difference

Only five minutes’ drive from the Motorway, 10 minutes from Gretna Green and 25 minutes from Carlisle, Williamwood Farm offers a great escape. The farm is only two hours from Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh and about three hours from Manchester and yet the atmosphere is completely different.

Williamwood Farm is a 310 acre farm that teems with wildlife, and offers a children’s farm, where your little ones can interact with small animals, or play in our adventure playground. You can even bring along some snacks and relax in our picnic area.

The farm is in close proximity to many local attractions, including Powfoot Beach and golf club just 12km away.

Williamwood Farm Activities Enrich Family Holidays in Scotland.

We are adding to our farm attractions all the time.       We offer guided themed walks, farm tours in our purpose built trailer pulled by a tractor, more intimate sunset tours, seasonal animal experiences like lambing and bat listening tours to name but a few.

We pride ourselves on our lovely themed walks, for the more energetic there is the farm walk, walking the boundaries of the farm, loch walk and lovely peaceful woodland walks, all offer the chance to see the farm animals and bountiful wildlife in their home environment.

In 2013, we planted over 11,000 young hedging and tree plants. In the spring of 2015, we planted a wood in memory of those who gave their lives in the First World War. The Woodland Trust has supported a series of these across the UK under the banner of “We stand for those who fell”. When in the process of planting the wood, guests were very welcome to join in and plant one of the trees.  During the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee we asked some local school children to come and plant a commemorative wood which we named Mick’s wood after Michael’s aunt who received an MBE for her work with the riding for the disabled in Wiltshire. Not many guests knew the wood was there so we have built a new bridge into the wood where you can see the trees and if you are lucky our resident buzzard that sits on the high perch Michael made to attract raptors into the wood. The path leads on up to the loch where another new photography hide has been built. During the spring many different species of wildfowl can be seen nesting and hatching out their young.

During outings, you will be able to safely observe the farm animals in their natural habitat. Be sure to take your camera along to capture the magnificent horses, birds and highland cattle, as well as the small animals in the wild, as this is an opportunity unlike any other.

At the end of the day, retire to your stylish, comfortable cottage where you can relax and unwind. That’s what family holidays in Scotland are all about.

It’s perfectly fine to spend the whole weekend in your cottage, if you just want to get away from it all and enjoy a few days of complete rest and relaxation.
