Welcome to Williamwood, one of the best kept secrets in Dumfries and Galloway.
On arrival probably the first thing you will notice is the long drive in and the magnificent hedges on either side. Next, may notice the exceptional numbers of birds which fly out of them. Welcome – you’ve arrived at Williamwood, where farming and nature go hand-in-hand and provide a wonderfully expansive setting for your stay.
We work hard to keep our holiday cottages to a high standard and to foster an environment which allows you to relax in comfort; and to explore the wonders of nature, if you wish, with or without your camera. Most of our visitors take away lots of photographs as well as happy memories. We hope you will too.
Less than 5 minutes from the M6/M74, 10 minutes from Gretna Green, 20 minutes from Carlisle, with Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish Borders, golfing, fishing, walking, bird watching and mountain biking all catered for within 45 minutes.
Williamwood is an ideal location from which to explore some of the most stunning countryside Scotland has to offer, with the benefit of being close to some of the greatest cities, like Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Cattle and sheep breeding are our main farming activities. We have three herds of cattle, a Highland herd, (the ones with the horns) a herd of Beef Shorthorns and a cross breed using the Shorthorn bull with our highland cows to produce a herd of Luing cattle, (pronounced ‘Ling’ after the Scottish Island).
Our sheep are a Welsh hill sheep breed called Lleyn (pronounced ‘Clin’), they have lovely white faces and are very hardy. Like Old Macdonald we also keep many animals as pets and for our younger visitors enjoyment: Our Donkey Luke aka Donkey, Widgey the pig, Wonkey and Amy the sheep and their goaty friends are resident in the kiddies play park.
